Smiles of God’s Goodness

Read

Psalm 19:1-4 (NIV)
1The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
2Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
3They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.
4Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.

Reflect

  God’s creation declares so powerfully how wonderful He is! The works of God’s hands are designed to display His incredible majesty; as we take in these snapshots of His awesomeness they should blow our minds!

  As Michael Frost explains it, “An encounter with the beauty of nature draws us to the Creator of all beauty…” As we chose to get out into nature, as we breathe in the beauty of His creation, as we open our eyes to admire the works of God’s hands, we can’t help but be reminded of the greatness of God and we can’t help but be drawn towards Him.

  Sadly, many of us spend little to no time outdoors in nature, and even when we do, our time is so full of activity that we rarely absorb and enjoy God’s incredible creation, and, consequently, miss out on a beautiful encounter with our Creator!

  Recently, God has really been challenging me to start getting out in nature more, to go for walks in nature and to soak in the beauty of God’s creation. And, as I have breathed in the fresh air, felt the warmth of the sun on my skin, taken in the beautiful sounds and smells of nature, and cast my eyes upon the beauty of God’s creation, I’ve not only experienced a great sense of awe and wonder towards God, but I’ve also felt a deeper connection and intimacy with my marvelous Creator. I’m now starting to understand what William Wilberforce speaks of when he describes God’s beautiful creation (flowers in particular) as the “smiles of God’s goodness.”

Respond

  Are you struggling to hear from God at present? Maybe you’re feeling like He is remaining silent or you’re feeling distant from Him? Or even if you’re not, why don’t you make some time this week to get outside and soak in the beauty of God’s creation and allow Him to reveal Himself and His smiles of goodness to you?
