1 John 2:15 (NLT)
15Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.
The concept of this verse is so simple…but do we really get it? Sometimes, we live like the rest of the world, and then we try to justify it. We watch movies with terrible morals and inappropriate language because they’re “funny” or “not that bad.” We listen to music with cuss words and profanity because “hymns are boring.” We fail to realize the serious reality of the situation: Christians are called to set an example for the rest of the world.
What “things of the world” are you trying to justify in your life? Perverted books, questionable movies, excessive social media, suggestive music, partying, inappropriate jokes, disrespect…
Ask yourself: If Jesus were standing next to me, would He be doing what I’m doing? Christians don’t live like the rest of the world. We honor God by striving for a higher standard.
