John 4:6 (NIV)
6Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon.
I find that I usually think about Jesus, primarily, in terms that separate Him from me. There are obvious things of course: He never sinned and I have. He’s perfect and I’m not. But there are actually some things that can remind us that Jesus is able relate to us as fellow human beings.
Remember, Jesus is your older brother (Hebrews 2:11). He became human just like you and me (John 1:14), and even got tired, just like you and I do (John 4:6). I kind of like the fact that God’s Word includes a detail like that, because it helps to remind me that the Savior of the World can also relate to me in something as basic as being tired.
During this week, when you notice that you’re tired, seek to thank God for not ignoring you because you’re tired, and actually thank Him—out loud, even—that He understands what it is like to be tired. It might sound something like, “Jesus, I’m really glad you can relate to me right now, because I’m really tired, and you actually understand what it’s like to be me. Thank you.” It’s cool that you have a big brother who really gets you!
