Forgiven and Free

1 John 1:9 (NLT)
9But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

Psalm 103:12 (CEB)
12As far as east is from west—
that’s how far God has removed
our sin from us.

Ephesians 3:12 (NIV)
12In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.

Have you ever felt guilty? Guilt really is one of the worst feelings. It eats inside of you like nothing else, making everything seem dark and gloomy. All hope seems to be lost, and you are constantly looking over your shoulder with feelings of anxiety.

There is good news though: we don’t have to live in that guilt anymore. God’s precious Word says that, if we confess our sins, God is faithful to forgive us and cleanse us of them. The concept of God removing our sins “as far as the east is from the west” is just crazy to me. The east and the west are literally running in opposite directions at all times! They will never meet again!

God has the power to forgive us and give us new life, but we have to ask for it. We are called to live lives of freedom and hope, not of guilt and anxiety.

It doesn’t matter how many times you mess up, God is still waiting for you with open arms. Confess your sins, and enjoy this wonderful gift of freedom that we have been given through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Whatever it is you need to be freed of –addictions, sins, whatever—know that God is bigger than any of those things.
