Loving Yourself

Psalm 139:13-15 (NIV)
13For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

14I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

15My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

  Have you ever heard the song “More Beautiful You” by Jonny Diaz? Some of the most prominent lyrics go like this:

    There could never be a more beautiful you,
    Don’t buy the lies, disguises,
        and hoops, they make you jump through
    You were made to fill a purpose
    That only you could do
    So there could never be a more beautiful you.

  God made us in his image, wonderfully and fearfully made! Re-read Psalms 139:13-15. God did not create us to envy the bodies of models on the front page of that magazine, or the athletes that stare out at us from the covers of sports mags. God created us all for a purpose and in the likeness and image of Him.

Next time you feel like you’re not good enough, try looking in the mirror and pointing out all the good qualities of yourself. Try to find the qualities that are easily overlooked: compassion, love, mercy, grace. All the qualities that God has blessed you with!

  Take some time to pray about your feelings and write down your feelings to pray about specific ones. Try talking to friends or family who will see all of the amazing qualities in you!

  And as the famous Dr. Seuss once said:
“You are you and that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is you’er than you!”
