Acts 17:26a (NIV)
26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth.
One big thing that goes hand in hand with prejudice is fear—fear born of ignorance. We don’t understand people in other cultures. We don’t take the time to try to understand them. This lack of understanding often causes us to be afraid. And we tend to try to avoid the things we’re afraid of.
This short verse from Acts reminds us that we all have things in common. Everybody was created by God—in God’s image. That’s only the beginning of the things everybody has in common.
Think of a person who you consider to be very different than you. In fact, it’s possible you dislike this person. It may be very likely that you could never be friends with this person.
Now, list some things that you and this person have in common. We’ll get you started:
1. We both need to have people who we can turn to when we need somebody.
2. We are both facing pressure to fit in with our friends.
Pray for this person right now. And start searching for the common things you share with people.
If today’s devotion spoke to you in a particular way and you feel led to share your thoughts with others, please do so.
